Grief doesn’t always look like sadness or tears.
For many of us, it hides behind exhaustion, irritability, caretaking, or the pressure to “stay strong.”
In Black and African American communities especially, grief can be silent — shaped by cultural expectations, faith, and a long history of collective and generational losses.
This 90-minute Lunch & Learn / Supper & Learn will help participants:
✔ Understand what modern grief really looks like (beyond the outdated 5 stages).
✔ Explore how cultural, spiritual, and family traditions shape grief experiences.
✔ Reflect on hidden or “unseen” grief they may carry.
✔ Learn and practice a simple, research-based coping skill for emotional surges.
Whether you are grieving a loved one, a relationship, health, or carrying the weight of community grief, this session will provide both understanding and practical tools to help.
No prior counseling experience required. All are welcome.
