A Little about Morgan

S. Morgan Wheeler, BS, is a Graduate Counseling Intern at Progressing through Therapy in Greensboro, North Carolina. Morgan believes therapy is about more than addressing life's challenges. It is also an opportunity to better understand yourself, discover what matters most to you, and explore how your experiences have shaped who you are and who you are becoming.

Morgan approaches counseling with curiosity, compassion, and an appreciation for the different experiences that shape each individual. She believes that meaningful growth begins with understanding ourselves, recognizing patterns, and exploring the possibilities for change.

Who Morgan Works With

Morgan provides individual counseling for adolescents ages 14 and older and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, self-esteem concerns, life transitions, interpersonal challenges, boundaries, and questions surrounding identity and personal growth.

Some clients come to therapy with a specific concern, while others may feel overwhelmed, disconnected, uncertain about their relationships, or simply curious about understanding themselves better.

Morgan welcomes individuals who are ready to explore their experiences, question familiar patterns, and discover what meaningful change might look like in their own lives.

Sometimes understanding yourself begins with finding the words for what you have been experiencing.

Clinical Approach

Morgan recognizes that no two individuals experience life's challenges in the same way. Her counseling approach is collaborative, supportive, and tailored to each client's individual needs and goals.

With specialized training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Morgan incorporates techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

Sessions may focus on identifying patterns, examining underlying beliefs, strengthening emotional awareness, understanding personal values, improving relationships, and developing practical tools for navigating everyday life.

Morgan understands that therapy is not always comfortable and that growth does not always follow a straight path. She strives to create an environment where clients can show up as they are, ask difficult questions, explore uncomfortable experiences, and recognize their progress without judgment or pressure.

Finding Your Voice Through Creative Expression

Morgan believes that sometimes the hardest part of understanding our emotions is finding the words to express them.

Drawing from her experience with slam poetry, spoken word, and her training as a ghostwriter, Morgan incorporates creative expression into counseling when appropriate and meaningful to the client.

Poetry and writing can offer opportunities to explore emotions, thoughts, beliefs, values, and personal experiences, particularly when traditional conversation does not fully capture what someone is experiencing.

Clients do not need to consider themselves writers or poets to benefit from creative exploration. The purpose is not to produce something perfect, but to create opportunities for expression, understanding, and personal discovery.

Beyond the Counseling Room

Outside of counseling, Morgan brings a variety of experiences and interests that reflect her creativity, curiosity, and adventurous spirit.

She has earned titles in beauty pageants, traveled to nearly ten countries, and enjoys experiencing different cultures and perspectives. She is also a trained ghostwriter with a passion for slam and spoken word poetry.

Morgan is also a dog trainer and has taught her one-year-old poodle, Mocha, to communicate using talking buttons.

Whether working with words, people, or her four-legged companion, Morgan appreciates that communication can take many forms and that understanding often begins with a willingness to listen differently.

What Graduate School Didn't Teach You

Morgan is also involved with What Graduate School Didn't Teach You, an interactive professional development series offered through Progressing through Therapy.

The series explores the connection between what emerging mental health professionals learn in graduate school and the realities of providing counseling services in clinical settings.

Designed for graduate counseling and social work students, provisionally licensed clinicians, and fully licensed professionals, the workshops provide opportunities for discussion, practical application, and continued professional growth.

Topics include counseling theories, clinical decision-making, case conceptualization, and the everyday challenges of developing confidence and competence as a mental health professional.
